<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reading device capable of compensating the amount of light received from a light source on the whole of a document surface, and an image formation device using the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The document reading device 1 includes: a document base 2 for mounting a document thereon; positioning ribs 3a, 3b for positioning the document mounted to the document base 2; a document pressing plate 4 for pressing the document mounted to the document base 2; an optical unit 5 including a light source 51 for irradiating the document; a reading part 6 for optically reading the document; a storage part for storing a value of the reading part 6; a control part for carrying out shading compensation by compensating the amount of light reflected from the surface of the document; and an operation part 8 for controlling the operation of the whole device. The control part includes a function of storing the amount of received light by the document covering the whole surface of the document base 2 before reading the document, and carrying out shading compensation based on the amount of received light stored in advance by making it correspond to a scanning position of the optical unit 5 when actually reading the document.
