A photocatalytic coating material which comprises photocatalytic oxide particles, a hydrophobic-resin emulsion, and water, wherein the photocatalytic oxide particles have a smaller average particle diameter than the particles dispersed in the hydrophobic-resin emulsion. Also provided is a self-cleaning water-based coating composition which comprises an aqueous silicone emulsion or the like, photocatalyst particles or a photocatalyst sol, and water, wherein the amount of the ingredient on a solid basis is less than 5 wt.% of all solid components of the coating composition. Further provided is a self- cleaning water-based coating composition which comprises an aqueous silicone emulsion or the like, whiskers or the like, photocatalyst particles,an inorganic coloring pigment, and water. |
