<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parts mounting apparatus capable of enhancing versatility and productivity. <P>SOLUTION: In a holding recess 27a formed at a tool stocker 15 for holding working tools such as a part holding nozzle 71 adapted to a plurality of types of working heads in an attachable and detachable manner corresponding to a type of an object where the tool stocker is provided in the part mounting apparatus for mounting a part fed from a part feeding part on a substrate held on a substrate holding part in a range constituting a background part during the detection of the presence or absence of the working tool by a reflection-type optical sensor 25, there is formed a surface layer having a reflecting property of reducing the light amount of background reflected light generated by such a mechanism that light is projected from the optical sensor 25 to the background part and reflected on the background to the optical sensor 25.
