<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support device reducing a sense of incompatibility given to a driver while ensuring safety. <P>SOLUTION: A inter-vehicle control ECU 20 executes ACC control to make an own vehicle travel according to a set vehicle speed or a set inter-vehicle distance, and a driver consciousness/state detection sensor 48 or the like detects that a driver is put in a driving inappropriate state which is inappropriate for driving, and when the driver consciousness/state detection sensor 48 or the like detects that the driver is put in the driving inappropriate state during the execution of ACC control, the inter-vehicle control ECU executes acceleration suppression control to suppress the acceleration of an own vehicle, and when there exists a preceding vehicle during the acceleration suppression control, the inter-vehicle control ECU 20 and a brake control ECU 42 make the own vehicle decelerate according to the deceleration of the preceding vehicle.
