<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which prevents an image forming process from being performed in a state that the charging member does not come into contact with the image carrier by rapidly determines whether or not a charging member comes into contact with the surface of an image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a process cartridge 7 which is integrally provided with: an charging roller 2 uniformly charging the surface of a photoreceptor drum 1; a contact/separation member 70 coupled to the charging roller 2 and capable of moving between a first position where the charging roller 2 is separated from the surface of the photoreceptor drum 1, and a second position where the charging roller 2 comes into contact therewith; and a nonvolatile memory M in which information on the image forming process is stored. When the contact/separation member 70 is at the first position, the nonvolatile memory M is in a non-conducted state, and when it is at the second position, the nonvolatile memory M is in a conducted state. The image forming apparatus includes a controller 202 which determines the contact or non-contact state of the charging roller 2 by detecting whether or not the nonvolatile memory M is conducted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
