PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic fiber treatment agent which provides a synthetic fiber for industrial materials with high extreme-pressure lubricating properties and excellent heat resistance, suppressing occurrence of fluff and tar in a spinning process and preventing reduction in operability even when spinning is carried out under severe conditions of high temperature and high contact pressure as the synthetic fiber and simultaneously developing a sufficient adhesiveness even if used in applications such as coating with an organic polymer resin such as polyvinyl chloride resin, or polypropylene resin, and a method for treating a synthetic fiber. SOLUTION: The synthetic fiber treatment agent includes 10-45 mass% of an organic acid esters, 45-84 mass% of a nonionic surfactant and 0.1-10 mass% of an anionic surfactant and 3-45 mass% a specific dimer acid ester as at least a part of the organic acid esters, based on the whole amount.
