PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a high quality and high-resolution image by a super-resolution process. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus for producing a high-resolution image whose resolution of an input image is improved produces a difference image indicating difference between both images by inputting a low-resolution image and a high-resolution image, and performs a process of adding the difference image and the high-resolution image. A super-resolution process executing unit performs a production process of the difference image using a motion compensation image which is produced by applying a detected object corresponding motion vector to each object area after detecting the object corresponding motion vector for each object indicating motion between images of the object commonly included in the low-resolution image and the high-resolution image. The present configuration enables a motion peculiar to the object to be reflected by an object area unit, thereby a producing process of a highly accurate and high-resolution image can be obtained.
