PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing device including an obstacle detecting means less susceptible to an external influence. SOLUTION: The obstacle detecting means for detecting an obstacle abutting midway through the closing movement of a shutter curtain as an opening and closing body includes: a locking wire 36 which serves as a tensioning force action member undergoing the action of a tensioning force in such a manner as to be put into the state of being mechanically connected to the shutter curtain by means of a mechanical connecting device, by having an auxiliary portion of the curtain moved with respect to a main portion of the curtain by the abutting obstacle; and a microswitch 170 which serves as a tensioning force detecting means, and which is actuated by turning of a turning member 42, which is connected to one end of the locking wire 36 via a coiled spring 43, by the action of the tensioning force to the locking wire 36 in the direction of an arrow D.
