A process for removing oxygen in water by means of ion-exchangers charged with reducing agents comprises contacting the water with a water-insoluble anion-exchange resin containing quaternary-ammonium groups and charged with polysulphide. The exchanger may be regenerated with alkali-metal or ammonium p polysulphides. The water, after passing through the anion exchanger, may be contacted with a mixture of a water-insoluble anion-exchange resin containing quaternary-ammonium groups in salt form and elemental sulphur.
