PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve influence that polarization characteristics give to the quality of a received signal.

SOLUTION: An optical transmission and reception system has an optical transmitter 2 and an optical receiver 3. The optical transmitter 2 has: a modulator 6 that outputs signal light to which optical modulation is performed; and a transmitter side signal processor 5 that performs a transmitter side digital signal processing, which gives change of polarized wave to the signal light after the optical modulation, to an inputted signal. The optical modulator 6 performs the optical modulation based on the inputted signal to which the transmitter side digital signal processing is performed in the transmitter signal processor 5. The optical receiver 3 has: a converter 7 that converts the signal light from the optical transmitter 2 inputted via a transmission path 4 into a digital electrical signal every for the polarized wave component; and a receiver side polarized signal processor 82 that performs a receiver side digital signal processing, which gives change of polarized wave whose characteristics are substantially reverse to the change of the polarized wave in the transmitter side signal processor 5, to the digital electrical signal from the converter 7.
