PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographic environment confirmation method and photographic environment confirming apparatus for confirming whether or not an environment provides a backlight photographed image suitable for background substitution. SOLUTION: While lighting a background surface from the back with an illuminator, the background surface is photographed by a photographing apparatus and a partial region in the photographed image is rewritten with an existent subject image. On the assumption that a background corresponding to a subject has predetermined uniformity in the photographed image, a pixel value of the background in the photographed image to which the subject is added, is estimated while also including the back hidden by the subject and the estimated pixel value is subtracted from pixel values of the photographed image to which the subject is added. On the basis of a subtraction result, regions in the photographed image, to which the subject is added, are distinguished between a subject region and a background region and a degree of matching between the distinguished subject region and the region rewritten into the subject image is confirmed.
