PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which prevents shift in image formation generated when scanning of an ink head is switched in the case of monochrome (black or gray) printing in the image forming apparatus capable of performing color printing. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus of an inkjet type, a scanning region of a gap complementary color nozzle located at the most rear part in a sub-scanning direction of a gap complementary color nozzle array (called a rear end gap complementary color nozzle) in a first scanning, and a scanning region of a gap complementary color nozzle located at the most front part of the gap complementary color nozzle array (called a front end gap complementary color nozzle) in a second scanning are the same region. A gap complementary color nozzle adjacent to a black nozzle of the gap complementary color nozzle array delivers an ink. The rear end gap complementary color nozzle and the front end gap complementary color nozzle which deliver the ink to the same region belong to different gap complementary color nozzle arrays.
