<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-security communication system wherein data of large capacitance are transmitted in a short time and a user is enabled to arbitrarily control data transmission via a transmission medium such as a human body. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a communication system for performing communication between communication devices communicable in accordance with first and second communication schemes, in a case where communication according to the second communication scheme is permitted during communication according to the first communication scheme, between the communication devices, the communication is performed in accordance with the second communication scheme with a higher communication velocity. In the first communication scheme, electric field communication is performed by bringing a transmission medium, that is interposed between one communication device and another communication device, into direct contact with or by capacitively coupling the transmission medium to electric field communication electrodes provided in both the communication devices.
