Provided is an azo pigment which has extremely excellent dispersibility and dispersion stability and exhibits good color hue and high tinting strength.  Preferably, provided is an azo pigment which has a length in the major axis direction of 0.01 µm to 30 µm when observed under a transmission microscope. An azo pigment represented by formula (1) which exhibits characteristic X-ray diffraction peaks at Bragg angles (2?±0.2o) of (i) 7.6o and 25.6o, (ii) 7.0o, 26.4o and 27.3o or (iii) 6.4o, 26.4o and 27.2o in X-ray diffraction with characteristic CuKa line, or a tautomer of the same.
