PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary hammering type electric tool equipped with versatility and also with excellent dust-proofing performance, while preventing a lever switch from being put on by an undeliberate manipulation. SOLUTION: An operating lever 5 is furnished with a through-hole 51 formed in the position mating with a plunger 21 and a shield plate 52 to slide so as to open and close the through-hole 51 in the longitudinal direction of the lever 5. When the lever 5 is swung with the through-hole 51 left open, the lever 5 goes through without pressing the plunger 21, but presses a lock member 4 solely. This causes a projection 44 provided on the lock member 4 to be engaged with parts 22a and 22b formed on a changeover switch 22 and engageable with projection 44, and sliding of the changeover switch 22 is prohibited. When the operating lever 5 is swung with the through-hole 51 closed, the lever 5 presses the plunger 21 to turn on the power to a switch 2, and also presses the lock member 4.
