<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material feeder capable of preventing the occurrence of inconvenience in a separation feed such as generation of an abnormal sound, deformation and non-feed of a sheet material, with a simple constitution. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A pair of deflection rollers 3 are arranged for contacting with the uppermost paper P, and a surface of the uppermost paper P is put in a firmly gripping state with the deflection rollers 3 when feeding the paper, and the uppermost paper P is deflected with the feeding direction as the axis, and a central part of the tip edge of the uppermost paper P is separated from the next position paper P. Next, the uppermost paper P is moved in the direction of a frictional separation member 4 while maintaining the deflection state through the counterclockwise rotation of the deflection rollers 3. In the frictional separation member 4, a feeding roller 5 rotates in the counterclockwise direction, and a central part in the width direction of the uppermost paper P is separated and fed to the downstream side in the feeding direction while being sandwiched between the feeding roller 5 and a separation pad 7.
