<p>1,246,400. Stabilizing polyolefins. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. 30 Sept., 1969 [30 Sept., 1968], No. 47885/69. Heading C3P. Crystalline olefin or aryl-substituted olefin polymers are stabilized with up to 5 weight per cent of a stabilizer composition comprising (a) an ester of thiodipropionic acid or di-(hydroxyethyl)sulphide, (b) a phosphite of formula wherein X is O or S and R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl groups, (c) a phenolic antioxidant of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are as defined and R<SP>111</SP> is an alkyl group with a C 12-30 linear chain, (d) a phenolic antioxidant of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are as defined and R<SP>111</SP> and R<SP>iv</SP> are alkyl groups, and (e) a metal soap. The polymer may be derived from ethylene, propylene, butene-1, 4-methylpentene-1 and styrene. Specified components are (a) dilauryl and dioctadecyl thiodipropionate, and thiodiglycol dilaurate and dioctadecanoate; (b) trilauryl, trioctadecyl didecyl phenyl and trinonylphenyl phosphite, and trilauryl thiophosphite, (c) and (d) phenolic antioxidants in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are methyl, ethyl and butyl with alcohol residues derived from lauryl, hexadecyl and octadecyl alcohols, and (e) calcium and magnesium stearates. The compositions may contain conventional stabilizers, opacifiers, and colorants and may be made into fibres. Nitrogen containing polycondensates may be incorporated to improve dyeability.</p> |
