1279994 Supported olefin polymerization catalyst FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 29 Aug 1969 [30 Aug 1968] 43202/69 Heading C3P Ethylene is homopolymerized or copolymerized with up to 10% of another olefin in the presence of (a) a tetravalent titanium compound reacted with, as carrier, the reaction product of a magnesium compound containing hydroxy groups and a C 1-9 aldehyde, and (b) an organoaluminium compound. A wide variety of magnesium compounds containing some hydroxy groups and also carbonate, oxide, sulphate, carboxylate, chloride or phosphate groups are described. A further inorganic substance may be included, reacted with the magnesium compound. In examples, ethylene is homopolymerized or copolymerized with butene in the presence of commercial MgO containing some OH groups-H.CHO or CH 3 .CHO-Cl 2 Ti(O-i- C 3 H 7 ) 2 or Cl 3 Ti(O-2-ethylhexyl) and Al(C 2 H 5 ) 3 . |
