The device (11) has a supporter (12) i.e. printed circuit board, for supporting light units i.e. LEDs, e.g. surface-mounted device-LEDs. The light units are arranged in two rows on the supporter. A cover (15) is designed as a thick foil and provided over one of the rows. The cover is provided with a light permeable symbol-area (16) over the light units, where separation units are provided between the light units of the row against over radiation of the light units to the area provided over an adjacent light unit. Another cover designed as a diffuser foil is provided over the other row.
