The invention relates to a device for braking a vehicle driven by a permanently excited synchronous motor (1) which vehicle is in particular a rail traction vehicle. The synchronous motor (1) can be separated from the power supply as an electric brake and can be connected to a brake resistor (7). According to the invention, a solenoid is connected to a voltage tap (9, 10) on the brake resistor (7), the solenoid keeping a mechanical brake (13) open due to its actuator force when voltage is applied, said brake being otherwise closed mechanically or pneumatically. |
