<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for authenticating a broadcast message even in an environment where only a comparatively small number of bits is used. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method for authenticating a broadcast message to be transmitted to user equipment UE, wherein the broadcast message is signed by a signing authority for authentication, the method including: using a master key MK which is shared between the signing authority and the user equipment UE to derive based thereupon a signing key for signing the message to be authenticated; and signing the message to be authenticated by the signing key and verifying the signature by the user equipment UE, wherein the master key MK is regularly updated, and the master key MK is sent from the signing authority to the user equipment UE in encrypted form using an encryption key Vki, the encryption key being a secret key shared between the user equipment and the network sending the master key.
