PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clarify color differences between regions of an autologous fluorescent image. SOLUTION: An image signal processing unit 50 has a pre-stage signal processing circuit 51, a brightness/color difference matrix circuit 52, and a color difference reference correction circuit 55. The pre-stage signal processing circuit 51 receives R, G and B signal components Rf, Gf and Bf that compose a fluorescent image signal. The brightness/color difference matrix circuit 52 generates color difference signal components Crf and Cbf on the basis of the R, G and B signal components Rf, Gf and Bf. A color difference histogram forming circuit 53 forms histograms Hcr and Hcb of the color difference signal components Crf and Cbf that composes the image signal. The color difference reference correction circuit 55 corrects the color difference signal components Crf and Cbf on the basis of the histogram Hcr and Hcb to generate reference corrected color difference signal components Cr1 and Cb1.
