<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DC motor malfunction detection method for preventing the DC motor from being smoked and burned even at serious faults such as failure, disconnection and ground fault in a switching element, a restricted state of the DC motor and a winding short-circuit of the DC motor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The DC motor malfunction state is determined from whether or not a current exceeding a reference current value flows in response to the operation mode of the DC motor. According to the time of the current exceeding the reference current value, the malfunction state of the DC motor is determined and a relay is switched off immediately to cut off power supply to an H bridge circuit and the DC motor.
