PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for sensing radial arterial pulses for noninvasive and continuous measurement of blood pressure are provided to obtain quantitative value related to a blood pressure, a vessel age, a disease concerned with heart's blood, and estimation of a possibility of disease by detecting a pulse wave at a radial artery of the human body. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus and a method for sensing radial arterial pulses for noninvasive and continuous measurement of blood pressure includes a pressure sensor, a pressure band, a motor unit, a pulse wave delivery speed calculation unit, and a augmentation index calculation unit. Two pressure sensor detect the pulse wave. The pressure band(401, 402) is expandable by an external pressure. The monitor unit supplies a suitable pressure to an expandable bag under the pressure sensor while being worn on the wrist.
