PURPOSE: An LCD device is provided to control brightness of an LCD panel by area according to a user command with the use of at least two gamma voltage sets having different voltage ranges, thereby controlling desired brightness by word mode area. CONSTITUTION: An LCD panel(42) arrays liquid crystal cells in matrix type. A gate driver(44) drives gate lines(GL0-GLn) of the LCD panel(42). A data driver(46) drives data lines(DL1-DLm) of the LCD panel(42). The first and second reference gamma voltage portions(50,52) generate reference gamma voltages, and supply the generated reference gamma voltages to the data driver(46). An ID signal generator(56) receives a selection signal of an image mode area from a user, and supplies the selection signal to the data driver(46). A timing controller(48) controls the gate driver(44) and the data driver(46).
