<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine which can sterilize or antibacterially treat a large amount of clothes even with a sterilizing agent of a low concentration, and to increase the sterilizing effect by making the generation of active oxygen species effectively performed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This washing machine includes a first water feeding path 9, an antibacterial agent generating means 12, a second water feeding path 10, a switching valve 13, a jetting section, and a light source. In this case, the first water feeding path 9 feeds water to a washing tub 3. The antibacterial agent generating means 12 forms an optical excitation antibacterial agent loaded water containing an optical excitation antibacterial agent 22 having an optical excitation action. The second water feeding path 10 feeds the optical excitation antibacterial agent loaded water to the washing tub 3 through the antibacterial agent generating means. The switching valve 13 switchably controls the water supply to the washing tub 3 through the first water feeding path 9 and the second water feeding path 10. The jetting section 16 feeds the optical excitation antibacterial agent added water into the washing tub 3 from the second water feeding path 10. The light source 5 irradiates laundry on which the optical excitation antibacterial agent loaded water has been poured with light. Then, the concentration of the optical excitation antibacterial agent 22 of the optical excitation antibacterial agent loaded water which is fed from the jetting section 16 is made higher than the concentration of the optical excitation antibacterial agent 22 of the optical excitation antibacterial agent added water which is accumulated in the washing tub 3 under a rinsing process.
