<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt fixing device configured to prevent a damage of an end part of a belt, and also to provide an image forming apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Sensors 48a and 48b are fitted such that in the initial condition of the belt fixing device, the fixing belt 34 is interposed between the sensors 48a and 48b located right and left in the width direction of the fixing belt, that is, such that the right and left sensors 48a and 48b are not blocked by the belt. When the fixing belt 34 skews in the axial direction of a tension roller (at least a fixing roller 31 or heat roller 35), the moving speed of the belt is detected by one of the sensors, e.g. 48a, and then the fixing belt 34 is reversely rotated.
