<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process by which a fullerene/polymer compound which contains no secondary amine in the structure, is neutral, and is water-soluble to water-dispersible or silicone-soluble to silicone-dispersible is produced in an extremely high yield without influencing the activity of the fullerene; a fullerene/polymer compound obtained by the process; and a cosmetic preparation containing the compound. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The process for fullerene/polymer compound production is characterized by reacting a fullerene with a polyoxyalkylene derivative or polyalkylsiloxane derivative (=polymer derivative) containing a free-radical polymerization initiator part by free-radical reaction to thereby produce a fullerene/polymer compound comprising the fullerene and the polymer derivative bonded therewith directly through a group represented by the formula: -R<SB>1</SB>CR<SB>2</SB>- [wherein R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>each represents a 1-6C alkyl, CN, COOR (R is a 1-6C alkyl or H), or NH<SB>2</SB>].
