<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biofilm by making a fibroin film insoluble in water, and usable as a culture medium for bacteria, and to provide a method for producing the biofilm. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The biofilm consists of a fibroin film subjected to water-insolubilizing treatment. The method for producing the biofilm comprises the first step of removing sericin from a cocoon material by routine procedure, the second step of putting the resultant cocoon material into a fibroin-dissolving solution to dissolve fibroin by heating, followed by conducting a dialysis to obtain an aqueous fibroin solution, the third step of adding a water-soluble polyol to the aqueous fibroin solution and casting the resultant solution over a flat plate to make a film, and the fourth step of subjecting the thus spread film to insolubilizing treatment at RH 60% or higher and at 30°C or higher but lower than the fibroin denaturation temperature.
