PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously perform image formation of serial head system and high speed image formation of electrophotographic system or the like. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a loop roller 2 that changes the length of a paper passage course from an ink jet printer 1 to an electrophotographic apparatus in the direction of conveyance; and an arithmetic processing unit that controls the position of the loop roller 2 and controls a change in the paper passage course in the direction of conveyance. When the passage of paper starts in an electrophotographic printer 3 before the passage of the paper ends in the ink jet printer 1, the arithmetic processing unit absorbs a difference between the paper conveyance speed of the ink jet printer 1 and the paper conveying speed of the electrophotographic printer 3 by changing the position of the loop roller 2, thus enebling the simultaneous printing by the ink jet printer 1 and the electrophotographic printer 3.
