PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion device which includes a totally aerated combustion type burner having a combustion plate with many burner ports on an upper surface in a combustion housing, and prevents thermal damages of the combustion housing without flowing cooling air between an outer side surface of the burner and an inner side surface of the combustion housing. SOLUTION: A covering body 7 formed of heat insulating material is mounted on the inner side surface of the combustion housing 1 which surrounds a space where mixture blown from the combustion plate 22 burns. The covering body 7 is formed in a U-shape in cross section having a recessed part 7a on an outer side surface side in contact with an inner surface of the combustion housing 1, and a heat insulating air layer 7b is defined by the recessed part 7a. A thickness t2 of the heat insulating air layer 7b is set to 28-44% of a total thickness t1 of the covering body 7. A chamfered part 7c is formed on an upper edge of the inner side surface of the covering body 7 to prevent the covering body from receiving heat. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
