PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a member joining method capable of obtaining sufficient durability against the repeated heat cycle of heating and cooling. SOLUTION: In the member joining method, Ag layers 6, 8, 7 and Bi layers 9a, 9b are formed between two members 2, 4 to be joined. The Ag layers 6, 8, 7 and the Bi layers 9a, 9b are heated to form a joined layer 3 consisting of an Ag-Bi alloy. The joined layer 3 contains <35 mass% Bi segregated in the Ag-Bi alloy.
