PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer ceramic electronic component capable of highly accurately sorting the failure in appearance of a ceramic base on the basis of the color. SOLUTION: The ceramic base 5 of the multilayer ceramic electronic component 1 has a plurality of first and second inner electrode layers 7, 8 each having a substantially cubic shape and disposed so as to oppose to each other in the inside. The first and second inner electrode layers 7, 8 have substantially rectangular main surfaces and a pair of long end surfaces 7e, 7f and 8e, 8f opposing to each other. The long end surfaces 7e, 8e and the long end surfaces 7f, 8f are disposed so as to be aligned in a direction where an upper surface 5c and a lower surface 5d of the ceramic base 5 oppose. Of two base surfaces adjacent on the upper surface 5c, the lower surface 5d and side surfaces 5e, 5f of the ceramic base 5, the base surface having a smaller distance to the inner electrode layer disposed nearest in the plurality of first and second inner electrode layers 7, 8 has a surface roughness larger than the surface roughness of the base surface having a larger distance to the inner electrode layer.
