A compound useful as an intermediate for obtaining a thiadiazole-based acaricide having a high purity in a high yield. This intermediate is obtained, for example, by reacting a 2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propionic acid ester represented by the following formula [II]: (wherein R2 represents C1-4 alkyl) with a compound represented by the following formula [III]: (wherein R1 represents C1-4 alkyl).
