A liquid mixture of terephthalic acid with an alkylene glycol suitable as a starting material mixture for a polyester polycondensation reaction is produced by preparing a liquid mixture of terephthalic acid particles prepared by the hydrolysis of a dialkyl terephthalate with at least one type of alkylene glycol and having a temperature of 100 to 130°C, and then stirring the liquid mixture for 15 minutes to 3 hours while the temperature of the liquid mixture is maintained in the above-mentioned range, to control the slurry properties of the liquid mixture.
