PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high purity alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution where a coarse alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution can be refined by removing a heavy metal contained in the coarse alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the high purity alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution, the heavy metal in the coarse alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution is removed by using a chelate resin having an aminophosphate group as a functional group. At least one kind among iron, copper, nickel, lead, aluminum, manganese, titanium, cobalt, zinc and cadmium is quoted as the heavy metal. It is favorable that the concentration of an alkali metal carbonate contained in the coarse alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution is 15-60 mass% when the total amount of the coarse alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution is 100 mass% and that the heavy metal is 5,000 ng/g or less. The heavy metal contained in the high purity alkali metal carbonate aqueous solution can be 500 ng/g or less. The chelate resin having the aminophosphate group is 0.1-20 mass%.
