A vehicle shutoff system for disconnecting an ignition system from engine running circuits of a vehicle can include at least one switching apparatus for connection along an ignition signal wire between the ignition system and the engine running circuits. The switching apparatus can have open and closed modes for disabling and enabling the ignition system, respectively. A computer connected to the switching apparatus can include a plurality of inputs for receiving information from the vehicle. The computer can initiate a first time interval in response to detecting a start condition, and after duration of the first time interval transition the switching apparatus to the open mode to disable the ignition system.
