In a bascule lock for casement windows a shifting member is moved by a bascule handle selectively upwardly or downwardly to operate linkages which release pins to allow horizontal or vertical pivoting of the window. Slider members 7 and 7<SP>1</SP>, having attached rollers 6 and 6<SP>1</SP> and being slidably mounted, and guided by slots 8 and 8<SP>1</SP>, on a shifting member 9, are moved towards each other by arms 4 and 5 when a handle 3 is pulled outwardly. A pivotally mounted lever 11 determines the direction of motion of shifting member 9, for depression of one of push-buttons 17 or 18 shifts the appropriate extension 13 or 13<SP>1</SP> into a slot 14 or 15 so that one or other of members 7 or 7<SP>1</SP> is rigidly linked to the shifting member 9. An alternative method of guiding the slider members is used in another embodiment where the members slide in a channelshaped member, this latter member moving bodily when either extension of the slider members is shifted into a recess in the channelshaped member. A channel may alternatively be formed in the window casement. |
