<p>The present invention relates to an apparatus and process for treating municipal solid waste (MSW), comprising (i) a feeding unit, (ii) a first pressure vessel, (iii) a second pressure vessel, (iv) means for, in use, agitating a content of the first pressure vessel, (v) a connection between the vessels for transferring steam between them, the connection comprising a compressor, and (vi) a classification section adapted to classify treated waste to yield several fractions. A method of providing green electricity is also provided, which comprises operating a power plant on the site of a MSW treating plant and providing about 5% or more of the energy requirement of the power plant, using a fibrous fraction obtained from the above process and having about 2 weight % or less of inorganic material and of plastic material.</p> |
