<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology relating to improvement of a golf club. <P>SOLUTION: A temporary shaft/component connection (12) for assembling a selected golf club shaft (14) with a club head (16) and/or hand grip segment (20), to facilitate custom club design and fitting to suit the needs and preferences of an individual golfer. The temporary shaft/component connection (12) is particularly designed for use with nonmetallic club shafts (14) formed from a graphite-based composite material or the like having a range of different lengths and stiffness (whip) characteristics. An adapter insert (28) is mechanically mounted on and fixed to an adapter socket (32) at positions apart in a pair of axis line directions.
