A method and a system for authenticating a device are provided to improve security and stability of a home network by performing authentication about a device connected to a home network. Each device(10) is connected to an authentication authority(30) in order to receive authentication. The authentication authority is connected to a central authentication authority(40). The central authentication authority manages the authentication authority. The device is connected to not only the authentication authority but also a home registration authority(20). The home registration authority stores information about the device by managing the other device. The home registration authority is connected to the authentication authority in order to perform a predetermined registration procedure about the device. The authentication authority issues and manages a public key. The central authentication authority manages the authentication authority.
