PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively store and retrieve mail data in any environment. SOLUTION: A mail archive device 100 stores mail data in any individual DB of a DB for full-text search index (index memory device 115), a DB (mail memory device 116) for a mail data body, a DB (header memory device 117) for header information, a DB (text memory device 118) for text information other than headers, and retrieves mail data from the individual DB. Furthermore, a DB configuration management table 104 manages whether or not the individual DB is valid. While mail data is stored, the mail archive device 100 refers to the DB configuration management table 104 and stores the corresponding information only in the valid individual DB. During rerieval, the mail archive device 100 refers to the DB configuration management table 104, and issues a retrieval request to the valid individual DB to obtain a retrieval result.
