An apparatus and a method for driving a motor for vehicles are provided to prevent damage to a motor or an H-bridge circuit due to an arm short by preventing that all control switches of the H-bridge circuit are turned on. A power filtering part(20) is connected to a battery(10) in order to stabilize a power source. A motor(40) is connected to the power filtering part in order to supply the power source. An H-bridge circuit(30) includes a first control switch(31), a second control switch(32), a third control switch(33), and a fourth control switch(34). The first control switch and the fourth control switch rotate the motor into a first direction. The second control switch and the third control switch rotate the motor into a second direction. A control switch part(50) outputs a first direction switch signal(FW-S) or a second direction switch signal(BW-S) for rotating the motor into the first direction or the second direction. A control part(60) is connected between the H-bridge circuit and the control switch part. If the first direction switch signal and the second direction switch signal are applied to the control part at the same time, the control part does not perform a control of the H-bridge circuit.
