PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems wherein when paper holding force by a conveying belt is declined since auxiliary scanning and paper discharge are performed by separate driving, positional shift of paper is generated to deteriorate image quality, and during duplex printing, paper cannot be securely held due to a curl the paper. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is provided with a means for applying voltage to a charging roller 34 so that a charged potential of a conveying belt 31 when a rear end portion 5e of paper 5 is electrostatically attracted to the conveying belt 31 becomes relatively high. A distance between a pressurization roller 36A, a nip part of the conveying belt 31 and the charging roller 34 is set to have a relationship to apply the relatively high charged potential to the conveying belt 31 in a rear end portion 5d of proceeding paper 5A having one face to be printed and a tip portion 5f of subsequent paper following the proceeding paper 5A and having the other face to be printed, during duplex printing of predetermined paper in the case where voltage is applied to the conveying belt 31 so as to make the charged potential become relatively high.
