<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device capable of effectively protecting a stored file, a terminal device using the same, and a using method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The method for using the storage device in the terminal device connected to the storage device comprises steps of confirming, when the storage device is connected, information of an authentication key recorded in the storage device; restoring a characteristic parameter for at least one of a file recorded in the storage device and the storage device from the information of the authentication key; and authenticating the storage device using the restored characteristic parameter. When the authentication is successful, the file can be decoded using the information of the authentication key and used.
