PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the operation efficiency of an image forming apparatus by eliminating the downtime of the apparatus when preferentially outputting jobs that use accessories requiring a warm-up time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises an image forming part for forming images on recording media according to image data when jobs are executed, a control part for managing the jobs and controlling the operation of the image forming part, and an accessory capable of temporary operation and requiring a warm-up time at the start of operation. The control part has a mode in which a current job can be suspended in the middle of execution for preferential execution of another prioritized job, and in the mode, suspends the current job in execution on completion of the warm-up of the accessory if the preferentially executed job involves the operation of the accessory, thus reducing wasteful downtime of the suspended job to ensure efficient operation of the image forming apparatus.
