Inulin-fluorescent conjugate for measurement of colonic permeability

An inulin-fluorescein (InFl) conjugate in a dose between 0.00 1- 0.005 mol/ 1 mol monosaccharide [2- 12 mol per 1000 mol] is a very safe and effective tool for the measurement of colonic permeability. InFl can be administered rectally, preferably thorough enema. It is cleared in the urine, and can be measured in urine or plasma samples. InFl is not absorbed in the gut under normal conditions but permeates the intestine in pathological conditions. Therefore measurement of colonic permeability allows to assess disorders including inflammation of the colon.
