PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to at least identify if a master roll in use is a genuine component, and to make a master roll of a nongenuine component usable by a user's judgment in stead of making all nongenuine master rolls unusable. SOLUTION: A master roll 15 is provided with optical information indicating a maker code and a stencil type code, which are read by a reflective sensor 32, and then, on the basis of this information, conformability of the master roll is discriminated. Discrimination of a nonconformable master roll leads to indication of an error, with a user's attention aroused. Detection of an error from the second time onward can be avoided by the user's judgment. Upon discrimination as a conformable master roll, re-implementation of the procedure following the one for such discrimination is stopped. Then, upon detection of the end mark information provided for the master roll, it is exchanged with a new master roll, with discrimination for the conformability resumed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
