The method involves arranging front cover stacks (3.1-3.3) within a supply area (2). Images (100i, 100ii) of a part of the supply area are produced by an image detection device (5.1) i.e. stereo camera, from two different perspectives (I, II). Object and/or position data (OD, PD) of the front cover stacks are determined by a photogrammetric method from the images. The images are repeatedly produced from different perspectives in a preset temporal interval. The perspectives are taken up by the alignment of the image detection device within or in relation to the supply area. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling a device for positioning of a front cover from a front cover stack (2) a roll packaging system with a device for positioning of a front cover from a front cover stack arranged within a supply area.
