PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of preventing the occurrence of valve stamping of a second exhaust valve even when there are a lift quantity increase demand and a valve timing advance demand of the second exhaust valve which by-passes a supercharger. SOLUTION: An Ex2 demand lift quantity and an ExVVT delay quantity (target values) are computed based on-demand output (step 104). When the Ex2 demand lift quantity is larger than an Ex2 actual lift quantity, it is determined that there is an increase demand of the Ex2 lift quantity (step 112), and the Ex2 actual lift quantity is held (step 114). Control of the ExVVT delay quantity is then carried out (step 116). When the ExVVT delay quantity reaches the target value, the Ex2 lift quantity is controlled to be the Ex2 demand lift quantity (step 120). COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
